The federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, as the current chair of IGAD, has generously offered to host the conference, through its Federal Ministry of Health and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The major objectives of the conference are to:
- Provide opportunities for member states, academic institutions, the civil society and development partners to share knowledge and best practices on health among pastoralists and cross-border mobile populations; and
- Map out directions and policy orientations for accelerated and sustainable delivery of health services, as well as enhanced cooperation with a wide-range of partners.

The conference is expected to attract over 300 participants drawn from the scientific and research communities from IGAD Members States and abroad. Policy and decision makers, as well as practitioners in the health sector are also expected to participate in the conference.
